A privately owned former RAAF Bloodhound missile once used beside famous RAAF Sabre and Mirage fighters to help defend Australia, has now been acquired by a aviation museum in Queensland – the Queensland Air Museum to be put on public display sometime in 2013. This will help the missile be seen by more people and will also help educate people to the role of SAMs and RAAF fighters in the 1960s.

Cool, I used to remember flying into Gut and looking at them all pointing East, there appeared to be hundreds of them.. They were a posting one tried to avoid like the plague, after all one joined up to work on aircraft, not missiles that never went anywhere… I know someone who was posted onto them at North Coates? He was not a happy bunny and every time I saw him after that he was even a less happy bunny…. Indeed he never got over it. Just wish I could remember his name… I bet he still hasn’t recovered lol.
