What, apart from the engines and manufacturer, is different between these two aircraft??
(First pic from Lufthansa’s website, I think)

Maybe we’ll get a wing of ‘108s for an airshow someday! 😉

Having flown G-ATBG frequently over around twenty five years the airframe was to all intents and purposes identical with the Taifun but the inverted straight six Renault engine was substituted for the Argus and that meant all new cowls firewall forward blending nito the original fuselage cross-section designed for the inverted V engine cowls. The propellor was completely different being a French electrically operated VP/CS airscrew. Engine starting was by compressed air in a similar fashion to the Stampe SV4A and SV4C. The overall length was a bit greater in the Nord and, IMHO, made it more aesthetically pleasing as a nicer cruciform planview.
Hope this helps.

PS – It may be that G-ASTG goes into the restoration shops in the not too distant future. Now that will be fantastic. I do hope it happens.

Mike you’re correct. In fact most of the aircraft still carry part numbers that start 108-XXX-XXX. The reality is that many of these aircraft were actually “re-manufactured” by the French by consolidating good parts from existing (sometimes damaged) airframes/stocks as opposed to new builds. The change is firewall forward with the addition of the Renault engine in place of the 108’s Argus. I believe the total production run was about 885 aircraft. Details of remaining airframes can be found here…

As far as I know the engine is the only difference. To all intents and purposes the Nord 1002 is just a re-engined Bf 108

I’m not sure, but I think the Nord 1002 has a straight up/down fin and rudder.

Hi,
I don’t know the two aircraft very well – but I believe that there are different props attached. Why not write to the owners?
Also some instruments and equipment linked to them might be different.
Cheers, Azi.
