Question about cockpit canopy Perspex?

Hi, Its probally been asked before, but does anyone on the forum know of a company or individual who can make up new sections for a canopy, I am talking about the sliding type rather than the large teardrop ones, the top curved panel and the side panels( i.e Harvard etc), I have a couple of sections that could be used as patterns, any thoughts?

Thanks.

Thanks you for all the advice and links, if there is a local chap that would be handy, will look into it. Some bits I can probally do myself, but the single curve might be tricky, I had thought of making a former then popping it in the oven! but the wife would kill me! thanks again to you all.

Hi,

This is my first post on this forum.
Carl and Tony at Aero-Traders in California have been building up plexi-glass parts and they might be able to help you out.

Cheers,

Bill

You can get anything of that sort done by Composites International
8 Vernon Street
Papakura
Auckland
New Zealand.
Phone ***6492985325
ask for Rob or Bruce
They are currently blowing new forward canopies for our Robin 2160 and did new ones for my Canadian Fox Moth. Lovely job.

D.I.Y.

There was indeed a guy in Worcester, as I used him about ten years ago, but I’m jiggered if I can remember his name. It’s probably worth asking around.
Glider companies such as Southern Sailplanes
(http://www.southernsailplanes.com) or (http://www.eastofenglandsailplanes.co.uk/index.html)
could help, but since it sounds like you only need to create a single-curvature, you may well be able to do it yourself and save money. There is tons of advice available on the web. You should just need a former and some carefully applied heat. If it’s lots of small panels, if you screw some up, the wastage is minimal.

Perspex mouldings

If they are still in business, you could try Technical Models, Bredbury Stockport, they used to make all sorts of apparatus and models using perpex as one of their favoured materials

About 15 years ago we had some Chipmunk winscreens made by a man at Norton near Worcester. Problem is I can not remember his details. He also made Glider transparencies.
