Question about in-flight refuelling

How much can a buddy tank hold?

And, how do the fighters maneuver to get close to the tanker craft during refueling? I mean, aren’t there huge vortices coming off of the tanker wings that would make refuelling very dangerous? You can’t really see the vortices (unless you were to use colored smoke I suppose and doppler radar imo is kind of iffy) right?

Also, with the USAF style of refuelling with the boom that has its own set of wings, aren’t there mini-vortices spinning from the wings as well that might throw the incoming fighter off course? (or too small to be of significance?)
