question about Oshkosh…

Aimed more at our forum friends ‘over the pond’…..

I’m going to Oshkosh this year (went last year…for a first time visit it was awesome !) and am taking my son with me this time. Now, Oshkosh is pretty heeuuuge…check out the piccie for those who havent been yet…and I am thinking of bring a couple of ‘walkie talkie’ type personal telephones that have a range of about three kilometers, but dont require a license to operate in the UK, so’s I can keep in contact with him if he’s off at the other end of a hangar / food queue / flight line.

I dont currently know the frequency they work on but am trying to find out.

Are these things used in the States ? do they have to be licensed ? are they used by staff at Oshkosh ?

Any advice gratefully accepted….

Brilliant, thanks for that. Probably wont use them that much but at around £50 for 4 X recharchable phones, this gives me a few spare for anyone else on the tour I’m going with.

Thanks again.

See ya there !

Hi, if you buy them in USA they will next to useless as they are popular and all the frequencies block up with the amount of talk going on over the airwaves. The UK models have a very slightly different frequency range which means that technically you should not use them but in reality you will not interfere with any other frequency. The staff (I am one) ground comms and aircraft use completely different frequencies. BTW – they do not have to be licenced (same as UK).
