how accurate is Microsoft’s Flight Simulator? 😀

For developing a sound instrument scan it is pretty good. For almost any other aspect of flying, you can forget it.

It’s still crap though!!!

I must relate a story of a young friend of mine who had about 12 hours total real flying time. She had never soloed, but was a frequent sim pilot. She managed in a real aircraft, much to the stunned surprise of her instructor, to do a very accurate instrument landing. All thanks to her sim expertise.
I think that says a lot about the benefits of the sim.

Nor do you have to walk round your computer prodding it to see if any bits fall off before you start. There’s no paper work to fill in when you finish either, and you don’t have to worry about a medical or having the latest version of the chart (which has just been published).
But we don’t have to worry about whether the graphics card is fast enough to run the scenery upgrade – any changes to our terrain are readily visible unless a cloud happens to get in the way.
I also suspect fewer people would be keen on computer simulation if it cost at least £100 every time you switched the PC on.
I also agree with Melvin about crashing. Mine still hurts! 😮

MS FS has no:
vibration
drafts
g-force
doors suddenly opening on take-off/landing
sensation of movement in the inner-ear
hypoxia
landing fees
hull insurance
life insurance
hangarage
awkward hangar doors
oily fuselages, queuing at the bowser
kudos at a fly-in
opportunity to swap flights and make great friends with real pilots
ability to take you on holiday
opportunity to take your friends flying
opportunity to land in a friends garden for a party
etc etc

Real flying hurts more when you crash!

Not at all.
A real aircraft flies. MS Flight Simulator is a firmy-stuck-on-the-ground game loosely based around flying.
It is moderately good for practising radio navigation, but beyond that it’s just a poor substitute and a bit of fun.
