J M Bazin of 607 Squadron flew Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain and then went on to Lancasters with 9 and 49 Sqn, including a raid on Tirpitz as a Sqn Ldr. Is that who you were thinking of?

Closest I can find is Tony Iveson seems to have flown Spits in the Battle, then moved to Bomber Command, joining 617 as pilot in July 1944.
