Calling all flanker freaks. Help!
Why are’nt there any aerials on the Su-30MKI Fins that were indcuted into the IAF? Take a look at the pix included below. All grey aircraft are the full-standard Su-30MKIs while SB008 and SB018 are ‘standard’ Su-30M/Ks.
In all MKIs there seems to be only 1 clearly visible antenna. Is this a new technology? It seems that they have done away with them and housed them in the main body….maybe to reduce the RCS?
We know that the IAF Su-30MKIs are not ‘full-spec’ yet, that there are some avionics and software upgrades still left. But surely they’ll not fly the aircraft without such basic equipment!?! What is the purpose of the usual 3 antenna anyway?
* For sake of reference I am also including on pic of a VVS Su-27 ’05’ and Su-30MKK proto. Also visit Ken “Flanker Man” Duffey’s page on Flanker Fins:
http://www.duffeyk.fsnet.co.uk/fins.htm
* Also note the very large increase in surface area of the moving surfaces on the fins (comprared to Su-27). First of a base has been ‘inserted’ at the bottom of the fin to increase the height, and the width has also been increased.
