We’ve had Ph.D standard threads on this subject in recent times. Hopefully if the debate on the subject is to continue, something new will be added to this.

Go to: Good job the M.52 was’nt given to the French…, but, simply:
No, septics did not take “all our research”; no they did not give “nothing in return”; no, Labour Govts. did not “continuously screw up UK aviation industry”. If you equate cancellations with “screw up” (though why should you?), Tories Sandys (much), Watkinson (Blue Streak), Maudling (V.1000) set the pace.

Don’t forget the US gave a lot of money to the UK for R&D and “offshore procurement” in the 50s…
As far as the war debt went remember: Husdons, Catalinas, Liberators, Mustangs, Thunderbolts, Flying Fortresses, Dakotas, Harvards, Fairchilds, Beeches, Sikorskys, Packard Merlins, ,etc, etc, don’t pay for themselves.
It’s not like you didn’t get a great deal with Lend Lease. 😀
Besides, just pass the bill onto the Germans…they started it. (and you got something out of it, Bristol swiped the BMW 328 design…):diablo:
