Questions about turbofan engine technology.

Hi everyone,

I am working on a small project for my Physics class and I want to compare to turbofan engine from Su-27 and F-15 in different parameters:

-Bypass ratio: how will the bypass ratio affect the fuel consumption, the working temperature of the engine, the temperature of the jet exhaust?
I have been reading online and it’s said that higher bypass ratio result in lower fuel consumption. Also, I see that that there are two lay-out for turbofan engine, one low by-pass on and one high-bypass one. How will the design influence the effect of the bypass on the performance of the engine?

-Mass airflow rate: is higher mass airflow rate better for engine’s efficiency? I heard claim that higher mass airflow rate will result in better efficiency when every other factors are the same.

-Compression ratio: it’s quoted that the compression ratio of PW F-100-229 is 31.5 compare to around 23 of AL-31. Will higher compression ratio result in lower fuel consumption because it’s more likely that the fuel will be more thoroughly combusted at higher pressure? Is there any relations between compression ratio and the bypass ratio?

-Finally, can you guy recommend me any books about this issue. I really appreciate your help.:)
