Poor Harrie

A bit more,
First woman to obtain her pilot licence, First solo woman across Chunnel passing her Aviator’s Test on August 1, 1911.(Wright brother’s would not enroll women at their flight school)

Born Michigan in 1875, eventually settled in New York, working as a photojournalist at ” Leslie’s Illusrated Weekly.

In October 1910, She had met John and Matilde Moisant, at the Belmont Park International Aviation Tournament, Where John had won the race around the Statue of Liberty for the American team.

Harriet and Matilde joined John and his brother Alfred’s ‘ Moisant School of Aviation “, ever though quiet a few woman flew at various airshow’s and Meeting, None had managed to get their ticket’s to fly,
Then up came Harriet, so for the then ” Women’s movement ” this was BIG victory 😉 .

She also went the other direction to Bleriot, even borrowing one of his No.XI’s for the flight, taking 20 minute’s longer then his.

( 😮 HERE same time at Old Melbourne Jail Vic Oz, my Great grandfather Pfeffer(Mum’s side) was hung until dead, and he too got nudged off the front page because of the big Iceburg, big ship thingo  , well I guess he got his 15 min’s anyway, at a stretch :p ).

Various idea’s about Harriet’s crash, loss of C of G, when, or before William Willard took his swan dive, out of I guess the back seat(No seat belt’s then), of the 2 seater before she too flipped out, and the plane crashed.

Some say the plane had a design fault, when dived to steep, guess we will never know really  .

That’s Dougy Bader all dressed up for the passing out parade at Cranwell.

Later he was told by his CO that that colour dress didn’t suit him at all. He then threw a hissy fit and went to the apres parade drinkies and got legless.

😀

Damn but that was in bad taste.
