This is something I’m not very sure of, and something that crops up in my story.
What rings would RAF pilots wear on their sleeves?
For example, my main character is a Pilot Officer, but I’m not sure if he would wear any stripes at all.
Any help, as always, greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a Pathfinder badge to me!

Would make sense,East Kirkby being a bomber base……
The badge was an RAF eagle in gold coloured metal if I recall correctly.

Could it have been a Pathfinder badge?

 Hi Anne, here’s one for you;I recently saw something on an RAF pilots,wartime,No.1 dress that confused me.He,a mannequin, had a set of gold metallic wings on the top pocket-flap below his flying wings.I think I saw this at East Kirkby but can’t be sure.Any ideas?

One thing you may want to take into account is that War Service Dress blouses only became standard issue to all ranks in 1943. They were available from 1940 onwards but only as working dress under Suits Aircrew and the standard Service Dress with four pockets and belt was a much more common item at that time.

“A Pilot Officer would have one narrow ring on his sleeve”
That’s on his uniform jacket – the one with the pockets. (Number One dress uniform??)
On his battle blouse the single stripe would appear on his epaulettes.
