hunter is not Duxford as the elevation is wrong go south from there and east!
Norwich?

The cockpit is the Hunter cockpit at Duxford, ISTR that although in F6 colours it is either ex Danish or ex Swiss.
The big old wheel looked like Grumpy the B25 to me on wet Tarmac.

By: stewart1a - 4th October 2004 at 14:18
no the boss belongs to a british based aircraft of the same company that built the Avenger hint , hint
By: Archer - 4th October 2004 at 14:16
See above (simultaneous posting and editing there 😀 )
By: stewart1a - 4th October 2004 at 14:14
yup only the boss to go
By: Archer - 4th October 2004 at 14:11
I was going to say the French based Avenger for both, but I think that one’s just the wheel then.
Edit: is the prop boss off a Corsair then? Seem to remember there’s one or two of those (presumably with three-bladers) in France as well.

Steve,
The Canberra and Javelin are long since gone what remains are a Valiant, victor, Buccanner, Hunter cockpit sections and a full meteor NF 14 and auster are present. a Hurricane now resides in the company of Spitfire opposite the Museum.
By: stewart1a - 4th October 2004 at 14:04
ok they are both Navy types from the same company but not the same type of aircraft U.S Navy, two different purposes any clues?
By: stewart1a - 4th October 2004 at 13:59
try the wheel its easier, the Boss is of a U.S navy type
By: Arabella-Cox - 4th October 2004 at 13:55
Yes, nice avatar. TB852 isn’t it? I last saw her at Manston 22 years ago. They had a Javelin and Canberra sitting there at that time too, as well as all sorts of stuff on the fire dump; Victor, Vulcan…
Still no idea on that prop boss, I’ve had a good look at it and I’m stumped. If pushed for a guess I’d say Wildcat, but that really is just a guess.

The boss and the wheel could be something big and American like a lodestar or similar???
By: stewart1a - 4th October 2004 at 13:48
steve do you think the Avatar looks nice then?
By: stewart1a - 4th October 2004 at 13:47
Steve your close with boss and the Hunter is spot on just the wheel and the boss to go the wheel is from an aircraft not based in the UK though hint there.
By: Arabella-Cox - 4th October 2004 at 13:46
Hunter presumably Manston then. That’s a guess, based upon the Spitfire in your avatar… 😉
You’ve got me on that prop boss though. Wildcat, Hellcat or Corsair are the only choices I can think of for a UK based three bladed radial, unless it’s off a Dak but I think that’s unlikely.
By: stewart1a - 4th October 2004 at 13:43
Steve you got the hurricane and the Nimrod but they have all ready been taken
By: stewart1a - 4th October 2004 at 13:42
hunter is not Duxford as the elevation is wrong go south from there and east!
By: Arabella-Cox - 4th October 2004 at 13:39
Don’t know whether anyone’s mentioned it yet, but my guess on the Hurricane leg would be LF363, which had a leg collapse at Duxford in June. I could have sworn it was the other leg though, in which case you’ve been a cheeky wee so-and-so and reversed the image… 😉
The cockpit is a Hunter. Not sure what mark, but it’s the one in Duxford’s hangar four.
Yellow spinner is definately off TFC’s Nimrod.
