I would be grateful if someone can identify the high ranking officers in this photograph from LIFE magazine

Looking at the medals, the AM second left is Sir Philip Bennet Joubert de la Ferté

hi all first post so be kind……..
i believe that the air vice marshal second from the right is Leonard Slatter, if you look at his medals he has the KBE, DSC and DFC the same as Sir Leonard.

I think that the AVM on the left is Air Vice Marshal Geoffrey BROMET (AOC 19 Group)
Some info about Coastal Command here…
So I think it is (from Left)
AVM Bromet,AM Joubert, ??, AC IT Lloyd

I do not think Sir Charles Portal is in this picture.
Second left is Philip Joubert and I T Lloyd is far right.

I agree with Ballykelly that the AM is indeed Joubert as AOC in C coastal
from Rafweb…
AM: 1 Jul 1936, (T) ACM: 1 Jul 1941?, ACM: 14 Apr 1942 [1 Jul 1941]
So picture presumably dated pre July 1941

Sorry but I doubt that the LH officer is Portal he was already an ACM in 1940…unless the photo is earlier date than previously thought !

I am most probably totally wrong, but my guess is, L-R;
The Lord Charles Portal, John Slessor, Sholto Douglas and David J Waghorn (or I.T. Lloyd).
I believe this photo was part of the PR in the runup to D-Day 1944.
But then again:confused:

I think the one on the left is Sir Charles Portal.
In April 1940 he was C-in-C Bomber Command and later that year (October 1940) Chief of the Air Staff where he remained for the duration of the war.

(L-R) Air Vice Marshal, Air Marshall, Air Vice Marshal, Air Commodore.

Joubert (if it is him) is an Air Marshal (not ACM) & is second from the left. Lloyd is far right.

Thanks. May I suggest you do a “left to right” or “right to left” for those of us that are not familiar with ranks.
By: Ballykellybrat - 5th January 2013 at 14:32
Suggest the Air Chief Marshal is ACM Sir Philip Joubert (AOC-in-C Coastal Command) & the Air Commodore is Air Cdre I T Lloyd (AOC 16 Group).

I suppose a date for the LIFE photo file would help?
Then a check of the senior officer list for that year.

Could the officer on the left be the Duke of Kent?
The present Duke’s father was in the RAF and died during WW2.

The medal cluster doesn’t look right for the Duke of Kent…

Thanks for the suggestions but nothing I can confirm.

The Air Marshal, second from left, isn’t Sir Arthur Coningham, is it?
