Fairford has rolled around again and I intend to go this year as I missed it last year. Could anyone who was there last year tell me what the queues were like to get in? I mean the pedestrian queue after you had parked your car. I always camp at the Reevey campsite and I was really ticked off at the gigantic queue to get in as part of the reason I camp is to avoid the traffic. I appreciate the need for the security but there was no control and I noticed many people were walking up to the head of the queue and pushing in. I also noticed it generally tended to be groups of blokes so no one in the queue behind would challenge them.
I was also looking at the prices, If you buy tickets on the day (sat or sun)and if you also go to the park and view on the Friday it will cost 110 pounds for two people. Certainly not cheap. 🙁

Imagine the cost of lessons in EDI from an LBA based instructor. Ouch!
He moans about going to the next town, so from Bradford to Edinburgh.. 😮
Might be quite expensive on the old fuel….. 😉
I agree, BSM were very good @ the NEC, they do things called roadshows where they visit schools and let 14-17 year olds drive, and guess what?
They are coming to my school in September, with my dad as one of the instructors!

Kurmitz – Although you are not too far away, that means you must still leave your place about 2.00AM to get there. I had no idea it was that bad. I might just buy and tent on the Friday morning and see if Reevey campsite have any places left for the weekend.
Ive never been to any of the campsites but I know a man who has, and it gets full up very quickly.
I do leave at 2am-ish and get an hour or so’s sleep when I get there.
When I went to the RAIT Cottesmore airshow, I would leave home the night before.
What stupid things we do for aircraft!

Indeed!
BSM were very good at the Birmingham Motor Show, plus the freebies they handed out are also an enticement.
Good marketing ploy by them.

My Dad is A Driving Instructor! He really likes it, and he HIGHLY recommends BSMs training.
Actively looking for lessons as we speak! 🙂

Thanks for asking Mark, No I am not going anywhere else abroad, I have had enough and the whole of the Middle East seems to be getting more volatile. Its quite scary coming back as I am 51 now and dont know what to do. I am however think of becoming a driving Instructor as over the years I have helped a number of family and friends through their tests. So if anyone on the Forum lives near Hungerford and needs driving lessons I will happily give a discount (and has proof of over 7,000 posts! :p :p :p )

EAL King – Yes I have taken the bus before and it is quite good. I am not a football fan but I caught the train from Reading to Swindon years ago and at Swindon a horde of blokes got off carrying binoculars, ladders, radios and aircraft mags to go and get the coaches. I thought this is what a football outing must be like although without the aggro.

Thats very good news OG, sadly Saudi is not the best place for anyone at the moment, anyone else I knew over there has long gone! Are you back in the UK for good, or will there be another “posting” elsewhere in the future?

a good thing to do is get one of the loads of busses going from swindon bus station right by swindon train station and it goes direct to fairford in special lanes takes 10-15 min and £3-5 v.good value

Every year I always get to the site between 3 and 4am, and people are already standing at the front of queue ahead of me. I get to park 50 yards from the gate so when I leave I dont have to go hunting for my car.
A large flask soup and a collaspable chair and Im happy to wait. At 7am the queues for the car parks are miles long and you have to park 3 – 4 fields away, even at that time.
Its a small inconvienience but I get to the fence first, set up my chairs and go walking / photos.
By the time the flying has started Im sat down after doing all the photos and buying bits.
This year its different as Ive forked out for the Waitrose area

You back in Britain yet OG? Nice to hear from you. 🙂
Thanks for the greeting LBARULES – Unfortunately I am still here but I am booked to fly out on Thursday 15th Just in time for RIAT 😀
I am going on BA – all their flights to Saudi now come through Kuwait as they do the crew change there so they dont have to stay overnight here.
I have my new digital camera at the ready and will try and get a couple of shots from my window seat (already requested) to post on the forum. Unfortunately the foreign airlines ramp is well away from the Saudia ramps but sometimes there is a rare bird – there was a Cameroon 747 the last time and an IL18 out of Sharjah.
Cheers
OG

I went last year, they seemed to handle the queues well! It’s not too good when they are checking your bags and all that lot but I guess they need to at a huge airshow like that!!!!!
