http://www.urbanlincs.co.uk/HTML/binbrook_gallery_1.htmDepressing….absolutely depressing! I hate to see binbrook go like this I would sooner see the demo squad come in and flatten the whole area very very sad… On a brighter note though the ground equipment is of interest could be sold or donated to groups looking after aircraft on static display or running??

Does anyone know who owns the nissen huts on the tech site? as seen in the link on the first post….
Or, if you currently own a pair of nissen huts which you no longer have a use for, plese let me know.

Sea Fury Fan, many thanks for the pics, so sad, I must admit the last time I was there back in Feb 04 when we got permission to visit the QRA shed to get photos and measurements of the crew quarters, I almost had a tear in my eye, the place was a shadow of its once former proud self, the weather was typical Binbrook, cold wind, rain, oh and some snow thrown in for good measure.
I very much doubt I will go back again.
You cant save em all I suppose.
Come along to Brunty on 22nd July and relive some of those memories
Cheers

A sad end to a once proud place—I was there for the last show when it was pouring down with rain and the skys were filled with Lightnings.
Seem to remember that show was not cancelled because of bad weather—mmmm, where have I heard that line recently?:(

Hello,
Pleased to report that my recent pics (8 Jun) were obtained without trespass ๐
The helo featured accompanied the camera platform.
A brief but fascinating visit.

re the git seals 3/4 by 1 inch available from Blue Diamond in Southampton, thats where I got some for 458
re 728 just a theory
If the IVV is not doing its stuff and the flaps are blocked off it it is entirely possible that the tank is beibg drawn down to a vacuum by fuel transfer to the engine. the only inward path being the transfer pipe fitted in mod er forgot its number but it is onle a 3/8 dia and limmited to the rate of ballance specially if the tank is nearly empty.
Is the situation worse with empty tank.
This from long conversation under wing of 53-671 at GAM with milt n dave a couple of weeks back.
Got pressure gauges to cover the relevent pressures and a little logger to strap in the wheel bay. if any help
still cant figurt out why it dose it on a run could be tied up with the datum pressure and ram air pressure in the LE throught the LE slot.

We are getting off the thread I think some what,
Give me a call when you get chance and I will give you the latest sorry story, things have changed in the last few weeks.
Cheers

With language like that you would do well in Outer Mongolia:D , seriously though it’s nice to hear some technical speak on Lightnings.
Regards,
John.

The thaught of mjr being close to 724 is well interesitng.
Perhaps I should wisper in the “Elephants ear” of 53-671 (an old friend) she might have something to say about the budding relationship, I will commune with 671 and enshure all is OK she iscoming on a treat.
Question
Are thel flaps on 728 sealed off from the fuel system to prevent leaks from the flap hinge seals. Always a prob on Lightnings.
This is a bit of info I need reply with PM to jb154
got a logger and sensors for 3500, +/- 15psi and 15 psi and a logger. have cunning plan re stagnation.
if personalities get in the way can contract out to the mythical mjr

The reason, I put MJR’s name forward was he is closer to 724 than I.
Hi yes, we blanked 728’s flaps off about 12 years ago, the repacing of ‘git’ seals got to better of us ๐ we also had none left, also blanked 904’s off as well.

Have many happy memories of Binbrook in far better days than itโs currently enduring, so very sad to hear that 724 has suffered the attentions of vandals and MJR is probably correct in his assumption that the rather careless attention brought about by those responsible for illegally trespassing on the former base and filming the location of the A/C were unwittingly advertising itโs vulnerable position to those with nothing between their ears but stupidity and malice, lets all hope that current site security levels will deter any more incursions and that repairs can be made and her current condition made good.

although these people appear to have done no harm and taken these pictures only, believe me, their actions are most unwelcome by the owners of the compound and the Lightning association, and in no small part probably indirectly responsible for a recent act of damadging vandalism on 724,..
By propogating these pictures and passing on the word, tresspass becomes a problem, until recently. Security been beefed up. So a heads up for anyone thinking of going up there to see 724. please, please, please! do NOT tresspass onto Binbrook. get permission!!, unless you want to get your heels torn out by very angry Dobermans that is, I kid you not! zero tolerance is now in effect at Binbrook, and the police are now involved ๐ฎ
Peter, the panel you refer to, was stolen by yobs!
The ground equipment is government surplus.

Just had a browse on google earth and before long we are going to lose a lot of the old bases even from the air!
me too… spotted the aforementioned lightning too…. didn’t look too good from above. Is that for sale also?… I didn’t even know it was there…!
How long before the majority of our airfields go the way of RAF Usworth / Sunderland Airport. (Bet you can’t find any trace of that one on Google earth… hint : Its buried under the bloody great big factory)
The site where the photos are, has just proved that these people are breaking into places. Cherry Knowle Hospital, Ryhope, Tyne and Wear is listed (Demolished this year). The whole place was a health risk due to the vast amount of asbestos used throughout. All doors were blocked and the area was fenced off. Lets hope these vandals die horribly from asbestosis. That’d teach them. God knows what damage they’d cause when around live aircraft.
