A great actor and a great film.

Also features the late Bob Peck (what the bloody hell are we firing at!) in his best role (IMHO).

Both will be missed.

This is very sad. I had the great fortune of corresponding with Ian a few years back and chatting with him via phone whilst he was helping me with some research. He was a very, very nice man, and rather witty.

He played both Sherlock Holmes and also Dr. Joseph Bell (whom Conan Doyle based Holmes upon) in his career. Plus many other memorable characters.

RIP

Sad news. 🙁

And rather ironic, considering that his last “major” role on UK television was as the voice of Death in “Hogfather”.

Helen Mirren paid a tearful tribute whilst picking up her Bafa last night.

Very sad to see another “proper ” actor pass on.
