At the risk of drifting a little off-topic, the centenries of Frank Whittle (June 1 1907) and Stanley Hooker (September 30 1907) have passed with relatively little public attention.
Whittle devised the jet engine and took out the first patents, but it was Hooker who made it into a practical means of propulsion ..not surely that I need to spell it out on this forum.

I don’t think it was so much a case of the Tudor being wrong as human fallibility that was the problem. OK, so the Tudor was a bit of a blast from the past really. More to the point, what was the problem with the Ashton?

And yet the Tudor was so wrong.

What happened?

When you read that it makes you wonder what other great things he would have had a hand in had it not been for his untimely demise. When you think that a lot of it was not his work but what he had inspired his team to come up with, after all he was head of the design team. Can’t help thinking they would not have been as good as they were without his leadership and inspiration.

………………………………………..
BTW: I hope it’s not inappropriate to ask here…but what did cause the crash of Tudor G-AGSU?

It was a miss rigging of the controls leading to reversed inputs, which caused loss of control at low altitude. Those who know say if it had been discovered at 5,000 feet and not 50′ it would have been recovered.
Hope it helps
Be lucky

Chadwick and his team certainly built some great aircraft.

Looking at he names in earlier posts one is reminded of the sheer number and quality of influential UK aircraft designers which certainly speaks well for the UK education system of the early 20th century.
It was also great that the country could support so many firms to employ them all. The RAF, RN and civil operators were spoiled for choice in the pre-war years.

…and crashed the Barracuda.

I agree that it is rather shameful of modern British society to forget our illustrious forbears.

Chadwick should be remembered along with many others including De Havilland, Camm, Sopwith, Carter, Folland, Fedden and Halford.

But then technology and science topics seem out of vogue for most and this is encouraging a new dark age to dawn full of religious proselytisers and new age quackery, along with the idiotic worship of the celebrity.

You forgot Frederic Handley-Page and Volkert

Are sure?

It was generally known that you “flew” the Lanc and “drove” the Halifax.

It`s a real shame that the media do not do “something” in rememberance, even just say a 30 minute programme.

Sorry, but it really peeves me that such people, that were pivotal to the aviation world in the Twentieth Century do not get a look-in these days. Sure C4 could sacrifice some “Big Brother” air time surely?.

Indeed, R.I.P Mr Chadwick, and thanks for producing a solid, safe kite for our boys, which was “..like driving a bus” according to a Lanc Skipper relative of mine!

Something should be done!

He was a great inventor and where would we be without his work in the aircraft field? No lancasters, no vulcans,….
