I will be present at next week’s last ever flight by the RAAF F-111 on Friday December 4th. Phil

Better make that Friday December 3rd. By the 4th, it’ll be all over 🙁

Thanks for the feedback.

I agree it is capable and shouldnt be retired in some ways but due to spares and age issues, the airframes needs to be withdrawn.

I will be present at next week’s last ever flight by the RAAF F-111 on Friday December 4th.
I will be doing a follow up story on this , so keep a look out.

Very good, thanks for posting that here Phil.

I think these sentances really sum up the F-111s use with both the RAAF and USAF,
“The early technical and design problems along with the enduring media criticism in the 1960s, were overcome or proven wrong, thus putting the F-111 chequed start behind and allowing it to mature into one of the most advanced strike bomber of the 20th Century.

The F-111 has crossed vast technology gaps to remain a vilable and unmatched strike platform for the RAAF”

Fantastic aircraft that overcame some long odds, and sad to see it finally bowing out of service.

Perhaps time for a ‘111 photos here thread?
