Am seeking any and all information on the crash of RAAF P-43D A56-7 near Gordon’s Gully, north of Healesville, Victoria on 29th April 1943
I was having something of a 4×4 expedition to an area known as “Aeroplane Track” in the state forest outside Healesville today as I’d heard the track had been cut in the 1970’s in order to recover some parts of a downed aircraft.
During a break in the travels in a small clearing I came across a section of what appears to be fuselage structure approximately 1ft long and several inches wide, which appears to have a tie down anchor on what i surmise wouldve been the internal surface, it is definitely aviation construction, there is faded paint on the exterior surface and the usual green zinc primer on the internal surface, riveting and bolting are unmistakeably aviation specification.
Ill clean the piece and post some photos over the course of the weekend but thus far Ive only been able to find the above report of an aircraft loss in that particular area, only other details I have are the pilot’s name and rank, and that his remains were not found with the aircraft and he is still listed as missing
