RAAFA Museum, Bull Creek, Perth.

After promising myself I’d visit again for the first time in a good few years, my five-year-old and I visited the RAAFA Museum at Bull Creek in the suburbs of Perth a few weeks ago.

The museum is entirely volunteer run and although a few of the older displays reflect this the collection of aircraft is superb and I was particularly impressed by the quality of the recent restorations.

The most recent arrival is a PBY-5A Catalina, a memorial to those which flew from Perth’s Swan River during the war.

Lancaster VII NX622 was gifted to the city by the French, and stood for many years at Perth airport, for a while with the Mosquito now at the AWM in Canberra.

Commonwealth Wackett, ex-RAAF trainer which was the personal transport of Horrie Miller, of local MacRobertson Miller Airways.

Finally a couple of tidy Great War replicas, firstly a Camel:

And a Bristol Tourer (converted Fighter) made for an Aussie TV series.

All in all a superb few hours. My lad loved it, too, and when asked what his favourite aircraft there was he replied “the flying boat”. Good lad!!
