Can anyone kindly point me to any detailed info on what these looked like – I mean very detailed stuff such as a dimensioned drawing or even a surviving (safe!) example in a museum please? Were the Bomber Command versions the same as the variety used on Fighter Command fighter-bombers? I need a ‘Talking Bomb’! 🙂

Actually I/We have one – sans fin, but our fabricator chap (at the Museum) has the full set of drawings to make one….maybe pop over in the new year?

Thank you to everyone who has contributed responses – they are all useful (great link James) and I will be following them all up. Next stop RAF Museum! 🙂

Hi Mark – I have a Supermarine drawing showing the arrangement of the 250lb under wing bomb installation, including an outline drawing of the bomb (not a perspective view). The bomb itself is not dimensioned, but I imagine it would be a pretty accurately scaled drawing.
If you’re interested, PM me.

I wonder if there is one closer to London to examine?
IIRC they had one on display in the Bomber Command Hall at Hendon. But I’m not sure if I saw it when I was there last.

This is quite useful, and authoritative.

Yes, that looks like it – they had a good half a dozen types on display. The good news is that the exhibition closes on 7th January and IWMNorth does not have storage facilities. All the research collections etc remain in the south. So if it is the right one for you, they should bring it closer in a month.

Here is a link to a pic of one
Thanks Chris, that looks exactly the kind I am interested in. Pondskater, thanks for the info – does the IWM one look like the one in the link? I wonder if there is one closer to London to examine?

Took a bit of Googling to find one, assembled enough 1/72 scale ones in past years……paint on the fingers……
Good luck with your project.

I’m fairly sure I saw one a couple of weeks ago at Imperial War Museum North in Manchester, in their Bomber Command exhibition “Against the odds”. They had a rack of different bombs on display – presumably safe.
