Somewhere, but I simply cannot now recall where, I have seen a nice image of the RAF ASR Rescue Launch No 116. My recollection is that it might be a colour image, and has possibly been reproduced in one of the many coffee-table type books on the Battle of Britain. The question is; which one? Can anyone point me to which book caries this image, or otherwise what the source of that image might be?

Thank you, pageno1.
Maybe I am getting muddled with that Roy Cross image? But I don’t think I am. Sure I have seen 116….although, I now need to check that it WAS 116.

I was wondering if it was classic Roy Cross Airfix box cover of the RAF launch, but that is 156.
This was taken from the BBCs ‘WW2 Peoples War’ site of Joan Davis,
“There were two RAF funerals – One was a Battle of Britain pilot and the other was a Radio Operator who was killed on the high speed rescue launch Number 116. It was shot up and the Skipper was injured and the Radio Operator was killed somewhere off of the Isle-of-Wight. Battle of Britain pilots who came down, were were buried with full military honours at Fawley.”
Not very helpful for what you need!

Creaking door…many thanks.
That was the image I had in mind – I think?
Do we know its source/origins? I’d like to track down a first-generation image.
The help of those who have replied much appreciated.

How do I make that image show in the post?

Edit: Ah, like that!

Thanks guys!
Here is one of the (grainy!) images I have found on the net, but I know there are other nicer head-on shots.
Having checked, it is certainly 116 I need images of!
I am wondering if it is an IWM shot but cannot find it in their indexes thus far.

They are cracking shots with the Lysander, some sort of press demo me thinks?
Reminds me of the lifeboat demo with the RAF Rescue Whirlwind that didn’t go so well.
Also, isn’t it funny how one persons Google search using the same words can bring up completely different info and pics than someone elses?

Sorry, can’t help with the source as it was found with an ‘RAF Rescue Launch’ search on Google Images.
Looks pretty official (posed?); can’t imagine anybody just happened to be out there with a camera to take such a great photo…
…so probably available from ‘official’ sources (?) and you’d know more about that than me. 🙂
