A slightly unusual topic but something that may eventually help to formally commemorate the history of RAF Balderton – a new care home was officially opened today on the edge of the former airfield site and owned by the Barchester group, the new home is called ‘Lancaster Grange’.
Below is short extract from their website that explains the choice of name:
“Recently completed on the Fernwood Park estate in Newark, our brand new, purpose-built care home provides a much needed and welcome addition to the area. Designed to provide the highest quality 24-hour residential and nursing care for older people – including those who are living with a dementia – in a warm and welcoming environment, the home is opened to residents in early August.
Situated on the edge of Newark, the children at Claypole Primary School took part in a competition to name the care home. From over 70 entries, Lancaster Grange was chosen in honour of the brave airmen who flew Lancaster Bombers from Newark in WW2.
With some residents expected in the home who have family links to the air force, learning about their life stories is a key part of our person-centred care approach. This helps us to connect with our residents, family and friends on a personal level to enhance the care that we offer.”
Open days at the weekend will feature a BBMF flypast on the Saturday at about 2pm.
