Totally non-sequitur to me, how RAF @ 100 = …that!

Oh I can’t help myself…Spectrum is Green!

Oh, SNAP, makes sense that Spectrum was also a all inclusive organization!
(Always wondered about the all female “Angles” 😉 )

As I said, it was not shown in that link. I also found nothing online about it. Just saw the pics shared in a friend’s Facebook post. Was in the City so I shot straight round when the Guildhall was recognised. This is a City of London thing ( Square Mile) rather than normal London event. I guess the lack of publicity could be due to special guests attending this evening?

Not on a par with the 50th anniversary display in Horse Guards Parade, but a sign of the times perhaps. How many of the aircraft are ‘real’? I might be tempted to go along.
Edit: The RAF announcement says London 6-9th July. Is the current display an extra?

Typhoon jet nose is just sticking into the pic on far right. Could not get a better of that view due to cordon and building pillar. They say open to public tomorrow.

Or is that the crossing to get there?

Thanks Tony T. Curiously no mention there.

Luckily someone recognised the Guildhall, Gresham St in the image. I just shot around there, as I am near St Paul’s today. You can just see them in the cordoned off square. Security chap says they are open to public from 11am tomorrow. Typhoon, Spitfire, Hurricane, SE5 , Camel and a zebra. No badges on sale though.

Just heard a rumor that there are RAFM planes exhibited somewhere in the City of London this weekend. Includes Spitfire, Hurricane and a Typhoon jet. Anyone able to tell me where please? I’ve been unable to find any mention online. If I go, I will ask about the dreaded symbol.

…. in this instance I do feel you’ve missed the point a bit. It’s not about bashing the new, it’s about questioning WTF it’s all about and how can such an obtuse ‘logo’ do the job

I can’t see any way the logo can benefit the centenary commemorations, I don’t like it and the reasoning has me totally beaten. But earlier the thread was wandering off into ‘designer bashing’ whilst others seemed to me to be making the assumption that it was somehow a logo for the RAF, not the event.

Speaking as a millennial, the roundel is totally lost on me. I also have a distrust of anything that is designed to appeal to millennials, or rather I have a distrust of things that boomers and Gen X-ers think millennials might happen to like. This roundel is a perfect example. To my millennial eyes it looks like the logo for somer sort of open source software package or IT company. If you walk around Edinburgh’s New Town you find Georgian town houses split up by floor, and one floor will be occupied by an IT development company. From the street you see a buzzer and an obscure logo like the RAF 100 roundel!

In my opinion the regular RAF roundel is iconic enough as it is.

Indeed it is. I can hardly offer you anything else.

Very helpful. But have the last comment since you’re the boss. I usually agree with your inputs but in this instance I do feel you’ve missed the point a bit. It’s not about bashing the new, it’s about questioning WTF it’s all about and how can such an obtuse ‘logo’ do the job it’s obviously meant to do. But as Ag4ent K say, it’s got us talking!

Maybe I have missed it earlier in the thread but is this ‘design’ being sold in the RAFM shop as some found of decal / sticker, if so at what price ? Surely as a ‘design’ for a single year / event it should used on the event marketing and maybe be given away free of charge in order to promote the event.
