Hello all,
I’m researching the RAF station at Clyffe Pypard in Wiltshire, which served initially as an ab initio training camp for RAF cadets, then for pre-glider training for the Army’s Glider Pilot Regiments and finally for training prospective Fleet Air Arm pilots.
Flying training began in 1941 and ended in 1947, after which Clyffe Pypard served as an overspill for trooping flight passengers awaiting departure from nearby Lyneham. It finally closed circa 1962.
So as a result I’ve looked at the usual sources for records (RAF Museum, National Archives) and am gradually transcribing a history of the base, but I really would like to include some personal recollections, log book entries and photographs from anyone who served there, whichever Service (including civilian staff) and any time that the Station was open.

Might be worth putting a letter in The Eagle – the Glider Pilot Regimental Association magazine. Sadly a lot of the old chaps have passed on but there are still a few about that probably did their bumps and circuits there.

Unfortunately I do not have access to his Log Book though – the service information was gathered from his autobiography, which has now been sent to Canada to the family of someone that John served with at Clyffe Pypard and then Strubby!
