I spend some time on the diecast forum and following from Martin Bulls photo thread a few weeks ago, a member has posted these pictures from a trip to Coleby Grange, a night fighter base (no, I’d not heard of it either)
Wonderful shots, and nice easy access it seems to a WW2 control tower.

Nice atmospheric shots, The airfield was used as a drop zone by Halifaxes from Syerston 11/45 to 7/47. Also Spitalgate used it as a relief landing ground from 1946 to early 48 then Cranwell till 1949. An Open day was held on 8/5/46 and the Lancaster “Aries” visited 10/8/46. The last Oxfords used by No 1515 BAT flight left 11/11/46 to Spitalgate.
In 1959 to May 1963 it was a Thor missile site No 142 Squadron, under Hemswells control.

Last time I saw Coleby Grange tower was in 2000 when I was based at Waddington, its nice to see the old tower still standing & remaining (reletivley) intact – long may she do so.:)
Given the station’s Night fighter history, the tower’s good condition & close location to the A15 road, I am surprised that a group has never formed to restore it.:(
That considered, it’s possible the landowner has no wish to see it restored- if so, then its a shame. :(:( .
