Actually probably not, too wide but what is it?

Are those two Whitley fuselages at the top of the image?

Is that a Lancaster nose on the far left ?

Back to Colerne for a mo’
I think that’s a Buckingham or Buckmaster fuselage next to the wings of PK513.

A corner of R.A.F. Burtonwood, 1947
We usually associate Burtonwood with the Americans but here it is in 1947.
Lots of Lancasters, Lincolns, Harvards (?) and at least one Mosquito.
I haven’t scanned all the photos yet but there isn’t much sign of U.S. scrap (or British scrap for that matter). It must have all gone by then?

Look at all the Lancs at Kemble, and a Wellington on finals for 27.

indeed. Time for a dig!
Have you seen Air Ministry’s pics in the other thread he linked to above ? a dig there would turn up parts, possibly even some quite substantial.

You can still make out the spot today…

Yes you can quite easily see the exact circular spot, also as Air Ministry said “Lancaster bomb doors being used to keep the pile tidy”, was it to keep it tidy ?, why would you pile it up as it would then take more time to load if it was being taken away, or was it neatly piled up as you would a bonfire, as that was the ultimate fate, hence the patch/scar still visible today?

Can somebody please advise me how I can see this image at a resolution that would allow me to read the serial let alone see a Spitfire wing. The image size for me is 64kb.
