RAF Coltishall – The Begining Of The End (20 Pics)

First of all, let me begin by saying a huge thankyou to StevieB and his wife for inviting me to stay with them for the duration of the disbandment and families day, and for lending me a 20D and 100-400 to play with over the weekend. All of these shots wouldn’t have been possible without their kindness.

Secondly, it was great chatting to so many people over the three days – enjoyed some really great company at the gate and in the field.

Anyway, onward with the pictures. They’re a mix from Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunshine was at a premium during Fri and Sat, but we got clear skies at all the right moments on Thursday – not to mention the Arctics!

Thanks for posting these pics!
I’ve got the coolest screensaver of the office these days….

The pics of the LongEeze are stunning: I had to check twice to make sure it was not a CGI…

keep’em coming!

16 and 54. 41 will be next, with 6 Sqn the last to go in 2007 I believe 🙁

So who is going to be left? Can’t imagine no 41 Squadron out there somewhere 🙁

From my one visit to Coltishall back in 1986 for the 41 Squadron reunion. Those Jags were tough looking kites too

Great stuff Dan – good to see you on Friday too. You’ve posted some stunners for us here!

Steve – the vast majority of flyers for the disbandment airfield attack and 9-ship formation actually came from 41 Sqn (with 16 and 54 Sqn crews), so I can see where you’re coming from! :p

Ah yes, thanks for that Dan, have just seen the other thread.

Note to self – read other threads before posting silly questions…

So who is it that’s gone? 41 and 54 presumably? End of an era… (sigh…)

Superb photo’s, thanks for posting.
Would love to see one of the Jags preserved in the Arctic colours when they are retired finally.
