RAF Coningsby Airshow 13/6/92

Evening all, does anyone have a complete log for the above that they’d be willing to share? Of particular interest is the F-4 16 ship fly-by, but also the static and other flying elements. I’ve tried Scramble.nl and a request on Fighter Control, but have had no luck so far…

Hi
Was it the year that this line-up appeared? if so I think I still have the programme, I’ll have a look later.

Phantom Formation

Air Britain News describes the Phantom formation as being from Watttisham for the Queen’s Birthday Fly-Past, ” due over Buckingham Palace at 1300 hours, then on to Duxford, Wyton, displayed at Coltishall and back [at Wattisham] in time for tea.” (they obviously didn’t know about them visiting Coningsby!)

Phantoms in the formation are listed as:

56 Sqdn: XT903/X, XV422/T, VX424/I, XV460/R, XV467/F, XV470/BD, XV473/N, XV494/A

74 Sqdn: XV423/Y, XV433/E, XV465/S, XV469/N, XV474/T, XV487/G, XV497/W, XV499/I

plus 5 airborne spares: XV415/E, XV468/H, XV494/O, XT892/J, XT896/V

Flying participants in the Coningsby Open Day are listed as:
Catalina G-BLSC, Harrier GR5 ZD401/AA, Harrier GR7 ZD432/N, Hawk T1 XX230, Hawk T1 XX281, Phantom FGR2 XT914/Z, Phantom FGR2 XV393/Q, Tornado F3 ZE339, Provost WW397, Bulldog XX713, Jaguar GR1A XX965

In the following month’s issue of the enthusiast magazine found a very different, and somewhat longer, list for the 13.6.92 open day, along with an editor’s apology for the previous incomplete report. This includes mention and registrations of the 16 Phantoms provided by 56 & 74 Sqdns. The Phantoms in the flying display were engaged in the Queen’s Birthday flypast and overflew en route back to Wattisham.

Sorry Dazza, seems I was initially wrong to doubt, but can supply the information you require.

There were definitely a formation of F4 Phantoms over Duxford as part of a flypast in London i believe.I do have some film of them somewhere i took ,if someone could narrow the dates down i will attempt to find it and stick it on you tube.
I believe they came back over Duxford after flying over London.

I have quickly located a list for that 13.6.92 Coningsby Open Day in an enthusiast magazine, however the log I have found is going to disappoint ‘Dazza’ as it only lists 1 Phantom, but 22 Tornado F.3! I had a feeling when I noticed the year, that a 16-ship formation of Phantoms was improbable. Unfortunately there is no comment on the report I have, nor are the aircraft present listed as static or participating.

Sorry Daz, but on the evidence I have here, your formation flypast was by Tornado F.3 not Phantoms, although I’d be delighted to be proved wrong!

If Daz wishes to send me a PM with his e-mail, I’ll see if I can make my new scanner/printer with an e-mail facility work as easily as the sales-person said it would!

I believe they may have also done a flypast over Duxford.I seem to remember seeing a formation of Phantoms over there.
