RAF Dakota Crash 5/9/45

Is there anyone out there who has more than a passing interest in DC3 Dakotas?

On the 5th Sept 1945, 78 Sqn suffered it’s worst single aircraft accident to date when Dakota Mk IV – KP235 crashed on take off from Istres, France

All four aircrew were killed (including two brothers) along with 12 groundcrew. A 13th member of the groundcrew died on 6/9/45

A further nine groundcrew were seriously injured as a result

Can anyone confirm what Sqn Code or Acft code this particular airframe was carrying? – All attempts to find this info have so far failed

Rgds

78 Squadron aircraft carried the squadron code EY, if you haven’t already tried I would suggest the squadron ORB at the National Archives. They often recorded aircraft by letter rather than serial number.
