hi,
a bit of a minor thread creep, I was reading a article in Aviation News 1985, about the show at Farnborough in Oct./ Nov. 1945, there was 32 a/c on view. At the end of the article it states that only the Bv 155 is in storage at Silver Hill, and a FW.190 on display in S.Africa, also possibly the Fieseler Storch being restored at St.Athan remain of that great exhibition. Oh for a far seeing person who could have kept them safe for the museum in the future. Bye the bye it also says “over a w/end in Nov. the public were allowed in to see what we had been fighting, but in the case of a Fw.190D captured on 1/1/45 during operation Bodenplatte with only superficial damage, was by Nov.11th reduced to a complete wreck by over enthusiastic visitors!”

regards,
jack…

Bit of a thread resurrection here, but the provenance of this report is on P424 of “Beware of the Dog at war” – 49 Sqn’s history. The person relating the anecdote was aircrew at the time and recalls the 109 flipping on to it’s back on landing. The aircrew helped lift the aircraft and released the pilot, who apparently removed a package from behind a panel (presumably his belongings) and was then handed over to the RAF Police. There is no mention of the incident in 49 or 189’s 540s for the period, lending credence to part of the report which stated that the Staish requested secrecy on the incident over the station tannoy at the time. Unfortunately whilst I was at Kew last year I didn’t delve far enough back into Fulbeck’s 540 to see if there was mention in there. The aircraft is not reported in the local Constabulary records, but I wouldn’t expect it to be as no damage was done nor any lives lost, and it happened on the airfield. I’ve also not seen anything in the reports of captured enemy aircraft at Kew either.

Any suggestions as to where else may hold corroboration or more info would be gratefully accepted!

Regards

G.

Thanks to everybody for helping with research ,this is a mystery. Perhaps the RAF Fulbeck ORB might turn up some information.

It’s not mentioned in either the Captive Luftwaffe or War Prizes.

It’s not one of those that the RAF test flew, nor is it the one that was displayed statically in a hanger at Farnborough in October 1945, which suggests the fact is appears on a crash log may be significant.

When were the aircraft dispersed/destroyed. Did any end up in museums here?

No, it was an entry on the BCAR website Crash Log page for December 1944.
I knew that German aircraft were stored at Fulbeck in the late fifties, but never heard of this one before .

Could this be anything to do with the storage of most of the axis ‘museum’ aircraft being stored at Fulbeck for a period post WWII?

Really ? Wow first time I’ve heard of this. Was it kept a secret? Suspect it’d have needed a drop tank to make Fulbeck from Denmark?
