RAF Greenham Common – a different view

Hi all,

We’ve all seen the IAT pictures taken at Greenham Common, but take a look at these I found on the Newbury Net website:

Such a shame when you see the place now 🙁

Cheers

Having been inside one of the INF Aeroflot aircraft I think they might have benefited from a visit to Carpet Right – the aisle from rear door to cockpit was covered in what looked like 1940’s stair carpet offcuts – trip hazard for sure!!!

Shopping trip into London thinly disguised as a INF inspection…

Levi jeans were very popular purchase.:D

As were our ‘training flights’ through Central Germany to Wiesbaden to shop at their P/X – nice cheap Levis @ $20!!! 🙂

Charlie, Hi,
The Aeroflot a/c poss on nuke decommissioning, etc, etc, as good idea?

Early IATs at Greenham were a hoot. Tim Princes’s hair may have gone grey very prematurely. Easterly take-offs over Burghfield – say no more!!!!! Ho Ho!

I think you are correct Resmoroh re. Aeroflot.

Lovely shots; can’t help but think that if it wasn’t for the locals complaining about the noise it would probably still be active. GC was, IIRC, the first choice for the TDY KC-135 base but local opposition forced the switch to Fairford. The next inhabitants were (lucky for us all) quiet during their tenure. Flying over it now it is an astonishing change – at least the guys at Upper Heyford are having a decent crack at preserving the place.

BTW – is that a ‘Janet’ 737? Long way from home if it is…..
