RAF Hendon

Hi. Does anyone know what is happening with the Remaining buildings at RAF Hendon. They don’t seem to be in that bad of a condition really and it would be a shame if they were to get demolished.

Any news?

Paul.

RE: RAF Hendon

They have talked about moving it all since at least 1990 and I would more suprised to learn if they do it at all. They have given up on trying to preserve the others. When you think of the effort small museums make to do and save buildings…

RE: RAF Hendon

The last I heard was that the old Grahame-White hangar was going to be dismantled and restored and moved over to a site within the current museum grounds.
The last I heard a few months back,no firm decision had been made as to the fate of the other buildings on the ‘derelict’ side of the fence, and there was talk of reclaiming atleast one or two of the smaller buildings adjacant to the museum site.

RE: RAF Hendon

its an absolute abomination. i sneaked over to have a look at them. the hangars in a right state. The old tower could easily be restored. But no, they want to flatten it all to put a leisure centre up. The old tower is unlocked and in remarkable condition.

RE: RAF Hendon

The hangar is coming over to be part of the totally revamped Hendon when the third building goes up-not sure about the rest.
