Hello all, as part of my squadron historian role (which I greatly enjoy) I’ve been authorised to produce some large framed pictures illustrating Sixty Squadron’s history. Our squadron is still active, training student pilots and crewmen on the Griffin helicopter at RAF Shawbury.
I’m looking for high quality photos of specific types if anyone has them in their collections. I can’t pay any cash I’m afraid, and I can’t guarantee they’ll be used, but will credit any photo used in the accompanying caption. Most importantly, your photo will help to inspire students as they pass through the squadron during their flying training. My thanks to a certain West Country gentleman for already assisting with the SEAC P-47.
I’m looking for colour or black and white photos, good enough for about 18″ x 24″ size, of the following types (air-to-air would be a bonus):
Nieuport 17, DH9a, DH10, Wapiti (IAF Museum, I believe), Blenheim I (wait for the Duxford one?/temperate, black undersides ideally), Blenheim IV (temperate/light undersides), Hurricane IIc (SEAC – BBMF PZ865 to oblige shortly?), Javelin (esp Tengah air-to-air)
Any contact details for furnishers of air-to-air images of the above would be appreciated.
Thanks chaps/chapesses, and please, if you can, make use of your pride and joys!

pagen01, nice photo. Yes, the Pembroke was indeed one of the longest serving types. The Griffin is catching up, moving into it’s sixteenth year. It’s been a challenge to get the balance of types fairly represented, and two of the hardest to find were the Hurricane IIc and Blenheim IV with belly guns, probably due to the austere living conditions – it’s amazing given the climate how many photos have survived.
Very much looking forward to PZ865 emerging in Far East colours; Duxford photographers, I’d really appreciate a high res image after rollout. Should look very good in temperate camouflage, Far East roundels and hopefully 4 x 20mm cannon! (any chance of the bomb racks to finish it off, BBMF, for a true Hurribomber?)
Thanks for all the positve comments!

Pembroke, at almost 20 years must be one of the longest serving types with 60?

Nice work indeed. On the Blenheim pics I am sure there is a thread on the forum somewhere I think regarding the colour of the undersides.

PT.
No.27 Squadron most probably in Malaya in 1941.

Probably taken at Kallang on 2 April 1941. There is an entry in the Squadron’s ORB which reads:
“The Squadron paraded in front of Aircraft at 07.30 hrs. S/Ldr Hackett, F/Lt. Fowle and F/Lt. Wigfall took off in Flight Formation in order to fly past for the benefit of the United Press, who visited the Station for the purpose of photographing and “writing up” Fighters.”

Have an original DH10 postcard I can scan in, don’t know how big it will blow up to though if that’s any use. May be portraying 60 Squadron Royal Flying Corps next weekend but very much in the pipline

Here are some Blenheims from Life magazine. Not sure what squadron as “PT” does not come up in my list of squadron codes.

Thanks, and we do have this film in our archives – a unique record of FEAC ops.

60 sqn Javelin – air to air
This one is in my Dad’s logbook

It’s just a “normal” photo, about 4″*6″ I don’t suppose anyone has ever seen it before. I’m not sure how big it could be blown up to.
The flight is listed as 10 July 1964 with Mike Thomas as Navigator, ” H.L. + L.L. Battle & Close ( 2 of 4 )”
BTW, have you seen these ?
