A bunch of appointed intellectuals who think it’s a good idea to give £78 million to the Royal Opera House, for the few that like opera, but wouldn’t recognise industrial heritage of any sort if it fell on them.

Lanc wreckage

Peter, you’ve got to be joking if you think that our lottery money will ever be used for anything involved with the preservation of our recent military history or the commemoration of those who fought….. you honestly wouldn’t believe what is a “deserving cause” in the UK……. the last one I read about was a grant awarded to a charity which helps Peruvian farmers breed fatter guinea pigs for consumption! Truly bizarre, so in that respect I do have a degree of sympathy for what they’re trying to achieve as money is obviously short. Like you I feel rather uncomfortable with it though, and you won’t see me parting with any of my hard earned for those lots.

other ways??

Your right Kev.
I think that there are better ways of earning money to start a museum than to offer wreckage for sale. How about lottery money??

Peter.

I’m not sure but I think the photo is just representative of the pieces of wreckage which are up for sale. I think anything recognisable is being kept for display.

Personally, I have mixed feelings about this. As the crew were killed in the crash and Dutch civilians on the ground, it does seem to add to the “ghoul” factor. But the vendors are trying to start a museum, just not sure whether this is the right way to raise the money.

Apparently now there are 4 seperate items of wreckage form this aircraft on ebay.! I wonder why there is only one photo for all 4 showing some unrecognizable piece of aluminum?

I saw Sally B a couple of weeks ago and the flypast logo had been removed. When I asked one of her ground crew why, I was told they had withdrawn their sponsership. I emailed Flypast to ask them why and never got an answer.

So Webmaster, I challange you to answer.

After all the fuss you made last year, why have you withdrawn your sponsership?

Surely there must be other ways of raising the cash? If Flyer are hosting the groups website, perhaps they’d also care to assist the museum’s efforts financially? Let’s face it, FlyPast are doing their bit for aviation heritage by sponsoring Sally B, so the precedent is there…

Selling pieces of the wreckage shouldn’t have to be necessary, even as a last resort.
