Firstly, appologies for not uploading these images sooner but this is the fist time I have been on the forum this week using my PC rather than my mobile phone! I’ve chosen my best pictures although the flying was hindered by the position of the sun!
So here goes…
ex-111 (F) Sqn Tornado F3 ZE735 ‘JU’ undergoing undercarriage and moving surfaces demonstrations. The kids just loved being able to command what the aircraft was able to do!
The sad end for many Tornado F3’s at RAF Leeming. Here ex-11 (F) Sqn ZE887 has nearly completed her RTP (return to produce) and will see the remainder of her scrapped at Seaham which is just up the road. Her tail can be seen in the jig on the first picture.

From what I believe, the HAS complex is still full of them……. For now anyway! Would have thought it would be good to keep a war reserve just like Davis Montham AFB in the States!

Such a sad sight seeing the F3’s like that. I hope one of the special tail F3’s can saved some how.
Was at Marham families day last week. Should have seen all the tornado parts boxed up in containers. I’m guessing delivered from RTP

Sad to see the ‘doomed’ F3’s though
Wow, like many, I remember them when they were Secret, then later in life, looking at them through my green tv screen. . .
They were SLOW to refuel in flight and invariably ended up burning the tanker’s fuel to stay in contact.
For all that, it looked nice.

On the day G-GAII/XE685 ‘VL-865’ (pictures to follow in installment 4) was also unable to fly due to a technical issue with the undercarriage release mechanism, although she flew on the Sunday after a replacement part being sourced very quickly!
I wonder where said part was pilfered from…?! :rolleyes:

Installment 3!
Team Viper aircraft G-VETA/XL600, G-BXFI/WV372 ‘R’ and G-PRII/WT723 masquerading as XG194 ‘N’ of the famous Black Arrows depart for the Sunderland International Air Show.
Hunter G-ETPS/XE601 did not attend as she was still U/S with a broken engine down at RAF Waddington!!
On the day G-GAII/XE685 ‘VL-861’ (pictures to follow in installment 4) was also unable to fly due to a technical issue with the undercarriage release mechanism, although she flew on the Sunday after a replacement part being sourced very quickly!
Vulcan B2 XH558 comes in for a low pass on her way back from the Sunderland International Air Show. Her second pass was quite spectacular after opening up the taps to create the famous ‘Vulcan Howl’.
Neil McCarthy’s DH Vampire T11 XD425 sits in the sun… and will be kept at Leeming until her turn for a full re-spray by the SERCO team whom are based at Leeming. It was SERCO who also sprayed up Neil’s Jet Provost T3A earlier this year in the special 1FTS display scheme.
