RAF Leeming late 50's early 60's

As a very young lad from 6 to 8 i can remember my mum taking me to see the aircraft near the crash gate at Leeming. I can remember the Javelins,Meteor NF 14s ,Valettas and Canberra T.11s of 228 OCU taxiing by and i used to wave at the pilots. The smell of burnt jet fuel even today brings back memories, does anybody else remember those heady days ?

Yes, the smell of JP4, and AVPIN -with a “hiss” – in August 1972 from 729 SQN Drakens. While “walking” by as the lowest member of the Royal Danish Air Force – a conscript going to dig holes in the ground etc.
Best regards

I remember it in the ’90’s….. a bit different then though…. (The Javelin was still there albeit guarding the gate)
