Hi all,
There is plenty of aircraft I missed at the beginning of the show but this is some of what I captured…

FAAM
If thats the case it would be good to see her preserved at the Fleet Air Arm Museum once struck of charge! I really should get myself down there as have never been and yet have heard so many good reports about the place!

I was sat in that very Jetstream (XX481) at CU airday this year. Was told by the Observer showing me around that the aircraft was a non-flyer since a recent bird-strike and the decision had be taken not to repair it given their impending retirement.
Well, it looks large as life at Leuchars!
Glad to see it is still flying as it was the first Jetstream delivered to 750NAS back in 1978!

Hi Phil….Brilliant shots and so many good ones.Nice to see the static as well as it gives an idea what was at the show.Like the Typhoon take off with A/B and the nice backdrop with the F3s in.Thanks for sharing.:)

Sad Lens
Thanks ‘Creaking Door’…
Most of these shots were done with my 70-300 Sigma APO lens which failed at the very beginning…
I need to try and get it fixed with better parts or get another make of lens to which I’m not sure what is best as yet..
Thanks again.

Simply stunning; shots like those are the reason I don’t try to take photographs at airshows anymore! Thanks for posting. 🙂
They remind me also that I should get my eyes examined; I didn’t see the aircraft that clearly when I was there…
…and I was really looking! 😀

Here are two amateur pics of the Pitts at Leuchars 2010 which I would have loved to see flying.
With no disrespect to the fantastic Blades

It would have been great to have a look inside the KC-135, I recall both in 2008 and 2009 the B-52 crew allowing some Air Cadets into their plane to view the flight deck, I was very jealous!!
I would have thought that with it being the 9/11 anniversary they would have been very visible as a show of US military strength sort of thing
!
Yes the KC-135 was interesting. The crew member on the flightdeck showed me the twin refuelling control systems, which provide for self replenishment if necessary giving longer endurance.
Interestingly an RAF VC-10 tanker was next to the B-52.
Last year the US Air Crews were the crowd pleasers, especially since they had several including the KC-10 Extender, F-16, Hornet, B-52 on static display.
I must agree that a show of strength rather than low key would have been a fitting message on the 9/11 anniversary.

I always like the BUFF and always amazed at its size. I recall in 2008 travelling up to Leuchars on the Monday after the airshow to watch her depart and she did two low passes and then a touch and go before heading state-side via an air-to-air refuelling rendezvous over Orkney if I recall correctly.

USAF – only KC135 and B52
I missed the show this year for the first time in many years (apart from the year they took a break) due to other commitments on Saturday that I couldn’t get out of. Hope to be back next year though.
I am surprised not to see any shots of the serving USAF contingent that frequent the show these days!
After a torrential downpour until shortly after 8 am it became a glorious days air show weather.
You missed a good one.
USAF only put on a KC135 and a B-52 and the crews were in low profile – in contrast to usual years. It may possibly have been because it was the anniversary of 9/11.
They had start to finish crowd visits into the entire KC135 – flight deck to rear refuelling station.
The F-16s that both flew were Dutch and Belgian- superb

Great shots – I was there and these are great
Hi Phantom Phil
Fantastic work with the lens.
You even got the awkward angles of one of the Saabs.
The JP flew over the railway station after the show.
The one sadly you haven’t got is at the Sunset Ceremony when the F3 slightly above the Typhoon came in low along the runway and just before the saluting base the F3 (111 sqn) banked steeply away to Port ,symbolically indicating it was relinquishing it’s Northern UK QRA role to the Typhoon (6 Sqn) which took the closing salute.
The one that I would have liked to see flying was the Pitts which was on static display.
Also missed seeing a Hornet or Super Hornet – static or flying.
Thanks for sharing your handywork.

leuchars airshow 2010
Hi There
My daughter is the navigator in the F3 with the flash on the tail. She was in the F3 that flew with the spitfire and Typhoon and then she was the very last F3 at the end that went straight up and into the blue yonder. Do you have any photo’s of those flights?
It is a great photo of the F3 you have on the forum.
I have taken photo’s but they are nowhere near as good as yours.
From her proud mum

Canny Harvard!
Sorry, none of the Harvard. I was near the KC-135 when you were displaying and my Sigma 300 decided to act up (which I may post on here for help with).
Regarding the Harvard…. Any chance of you popping into Eshott with her for the 2011 Great North Fly-In?
P.S. – It was great to hear that band-saw effect of the props of your Harvard when you were displaying!!!!

Phantoms
Sorry ‘Wiseman’,
I wasn’t around to view the arrivals and departures. I only managed to get a picture of the JP as I arranged with the pilot to overfly nearby Crail Airfield.
It’s about time the Germans put some aircraft back on the circuit especially the Phantom given that they aint got long left!!
Thanks for the comments guys!
Thanks for the great photos… love the the Hunters, the Hurri, the Vulcan… Any Phantom phlying shots?
