So did anybody actually go this year or was I the only one?
(I thought I’d start a new thread to see if anybody had anything positive to say rather that add to the thread about people who weren’t going or had been on previous years and had bad experiences!)

My daughter was the navigator in the F3 which flew with the spitfire and Typhoon. She was then the last to take off as they did the 4 formation and the flight that got me to have tears in my eyes, was the last fly past and she followed the Typhoon and was in the F3 that went straight up and out of sight, in reheat she tells me.
Yes, I was surprised how poignant that climb into the clear blue sky by the single Tornado F3 was. I think it showed that 111 Squadron had made a real effort to give the old Tornado F3 a bit of a send-off and I for one really appreciated it.

Like Creaking Door, we used the White Park and Ride – not traffic problems getting to it, then an hour to get into the base – eventually the Motorbike cops rescued all the P&R buses and gave us an escort into the base.
leaving just before the end, slight delay due to the traffic accident, but back at the car 20 minutes later and back home no later than any other visit to St Andrews.
Phil, presume you were parking Onbase? Traffic was diverted north because of the traffic chaos at Guardbridge P&R

Bad Traffic @ Leuchars!!!!
I love Leuchars!!!
The show itself was great but the traffic organisation was absolutely terrible.
I was coming from Crail which is 15 miles SOUTH of RAF Leuchars and on leaving the show I was directed NORTH to TAYPORT. Once there I obviously needed to go SOUTH so headed back down towards GUARDBRIDGE. Again, I was redirected NORTH even after explaining this to the Police woman. I was sneaky enough to head cross country to CUPAR but found the main road to Crail was closed. All in all a 15mile journey turned into a 60 mile journey!
I really don’t understand why the RAF can’t use the south side crash gate like they used to in the old days. Traffic was much more organsied back in the 90’s!!!!
Did anyone else on here have this problem???

And just to echo Creaking Door here, a big pat on the back for the people who put the show together.

And so you should be proud. That was quite a finish!

leuchars airshow 2010
Hello
I am replying to your thread as I happened upon while looking for photo’s of the show.
So only replying as the proudest mum on the planet, to give you inside info. From one F3 enthuiast to another. It was my first airshow and I have not stopped smiling yet.:)

Obviously this thread isn’t going to get many responses…..or is everybody still stuck in a waterlogged park-and-ride field?
This was my first Leuchars show and I’m very glad that I made the 860 mile round trip. On the whole a very good airshow with an interesting flying programme that lasted from 10:15 until 17:30 with a fair few aircraft movement after that.
Particular highlights for me were a breathtakingly moving solo Spitfire display against a perfect powder-blue sky at around 17:00 (thanks from me to the commentator for his silence during this), a spectacular Hunter four-ship display and an extremely poignant series of flypasts by the 111 Squadron Tornado F3, including some spectacular take-offs, flypasts with Typhoon and Spitfire, and a fantastic break-to-land by the four-ship formation; absolutely lovely, but then the F3 bow-out was the whole reason that I went (and I must be about the only Tornado F3 fan on the planet)!
I can’t really comment on the traffic situation; I was car number seven into the white park-and-ride but the first bus got stuck in traffic when we could see the base and after half-an-hour I got off and walked. I wasn’t sure how far it was to the gate (and nor was the driver) but as it happened it was only about 250 yards and by 09:00 I was through security and in.
My only real concern had been the weather and that, after a quick torrent as I was leaving my car, was also breathtakingly good. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the RAF Leuchars team are to be congratulated especially at a time of budget concerns and operational commitments. Well done to all concerned!
