A very busy day at Lossie and Kinloss, both with aircraft and people and cracking weather.
Anyway a select few pictures….

Tried my hand at getting some burner shots in the fading light. Not brilliant, but I’m pleased with the results.

coming in across the golf course in 1975
No golf course in 1975 – was just a lovelly sandy beach, and gorse covered sand dunes. Ahh night time skinny dipping (shhhhh :diablo: ). I remember it well.

Thanks for the reply Darren. The gorse looks awfully thick down that way these days!
Will start saving for the kit. good work.

macz,
I use a Canon350D with a Sigma 50-500mm lens. The viewpoints from the fence are fantastic and you can still stand under the flightpath, if you are brave/stupid enough….lol
The Jag shot was taken at Kinloss, during the CQWI exercise.

Wonderful shots and thanks for posting them!
I was at Lossie this year on camp with our ATC Squadron. With the exception of a 14 Sqn visit ironically you see more of the aircraft from the other side of the wire! (though you do have an exceptionally good viewpoint there). Amazing to see those Jags … I have similar b&w shots of them coming in across the golf course in 1975 (when you could actually stand under the flightpath!).
May I ask what sort of equipment you use?

Ditto – haven’t been to Lossie since – ohh -1978 – would love to see it again now, after nearly 30 years
Even longer for me. Flew into Lossie in 1967 on a Cherokee 6 and in 1971 on an Islander to help out with Loganair’s pleasure flights at the open day/air display. All changed there now; Gannets all gone. Thanks for posting these excellent pictures.

Cheers for the comments folks.
Mike – it was VERY noisy – just as it should be.

Nice shots. Nice and noisy too I hope. Wish I could have been there too but it’s just a bit too far from home for a day out.

Where does the time go? Seems much more recent.
Is Ops/Comcen/Telephone Exchange still a wooden shack? Is the Jag sim still there, taking up 3 buildings the size of a hangar each? Is the NAAFI still cockroach ridden? (Wait, maybe that was Finningley? – 😀 ). Is the WAAF block still off-limits to men? – so many questions.
Sing along – “Where have all he Gannets gone? Long time passing, Where….etc…?”
I forget now – was it Mamba’s or mammaries all those Navy boys were chasing?
