RAF & Luftwaffe pilots wings ?

Hi All,
I have the original ‘Simon Atack’ artwork ‘Stirling Corkscrew Evasion’ and want to enhance the work in the frame by adding RAF & Luftwaffe pilot wings. I know the RAF wings are a generic for any pilot but I was wondering if anybody new if there were special Night-Fighter Luftwaffe wings at all or were the Luftwaffe pilot wings also generic ?

If so where could I purchase said authentic items please ? I am aware of Ebay but with the amount of fake stuff around I really think it will have to be specialist or are a pair of replica wings just as good ? Any help would be gratefully appreciated….:eagerness:

Geoff.

Just to confirm my previous post that the wings shaped badge – Translates as ‘Front Flying Clasp’ – so an operational badge.
I just copied this from wiki for convenience – looks pretty accurate…

The Front Flying Clasp of the Luftwaffe (German: Frontflugspange) was a World War II German military decoration awarded to aircrew and certain other Luftwaffe personnel in recognition of the number of operational flights flown. It was awarded in Bronze, Silver, and Gold with an upgrade to include diamonds possible. Pennants suspended from the clasp indicated the number of missions obtained in a given type of aircraft. Front Flying Clasps were issued for missions completed in the following Luftwaffe aircraft:

The different clasps were inaugurated by Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring on:
30 January 1941 for the Front Flying Clasp
26 June 1942 for the Pennant to the Gold Front Flying Clasp
29 April 1944 for the Pennant with number of mission
Design
All badges are formed of a central device (usually blackened) encircled by a wreath of laurel leaves set between two stylized wings of oak leaves with a swastika located at the base of the wreath. Clasps measure approximately 7.5 cm (3 in) by 2.5 cm (1 in). The various designs of the central device was determined from the type of aircraft flown.
Criteria for qualification
Bronze – 20 flown missions
Silver – 60 flown missions
Gold – 110 flown missions
Pennant to the Gold Front Flying Clasp
Day Fighters and Transport Units: 500 missions
Air to Ground Support Fighters: 400 missions
Bombers, Air Sea Rescue and Weather Reconnaissance: 300 missions
Reconnaissance and Night Fighters: 250 missions

Geoff
My understanding is that the Laurel/eagle/swastika oval badge is an aircrew qualification badge whereas the ‘Wing’ shaped badges are more of an ‘operational’ badge which would be awarded after so many operational Sorties or Hours, too late to google it at the mo LOL!
Therefore it is quite possible for a Luftwaffe pilot to have 2 or more Pilot Badges.

Hi All,
TerryP,
In your opinion would you say that the Wings that are cast metal would be correct (i.e Aces High supplied) while the others are extra awards to be worn on No.1 uniforms ?

It would seem that the “Breast Insignia” wings is not specifically for pilots, but the appropriate qualification badge is and the qualification clasp that I posted before is an extra!

Hi All,
TerryP,
I take it that I would require one of two NI middle or NL-RF & NIA ? It’s the correct pilots wings for the JU88C ? In the image below that is the bother.

I have German Pilots wings on another print supplied from Aces high see below.

But when I see pilots with all three it makes me wonder what is correct and whether I actually need two or three when just the one would be correct.

According to “Badges and Insignia of WW2” by Guido Rosignoli as well as the standard Pilot qualification badge there were also qualification clasps, perhaps worn on the breast, like those below:
