We still have a number of airframes, airframe parts and cockpits to bring to site along with a number of military cranes and vehicles including a Centurion tank.

Site 3 – HMS Macaw – http://www.hms-macaw.co.uk

Initial displays on the Fleet Air Arm stations of the North West, Fleet and Royal Marines have been established.

Displays relating to the Fleet Air Arm Crash sites in the North West have now started to be transferred to this site.

We are planning to install an aircraft (to be decided) on site to act as a gate guardian

These are housed in small part of the site whilst plans are established/developed for the funding and restoration of the full site take place.

HMS Macaw can now be opened only by prior arrangement.

Volunteers are needed to assist with all areas of the museum, if you feel you can help please get in touch.

I am so thankful that the heritage of North West England aviation are being preserved and displayed at Millom, well done to all.

Have you listed your resource with film props companies ? They are often looking for items to rent.

Reply to Scotavia’s Idea

Thats a cracking idea scotavia. We do have some pretty good aircraft outside for crash sites at our place! We certainly shall explore that avenue.

Thanks

G-OLFC the crashed Piper Tomahawk flies again (virtually)

Piper Tomahawk G-OLFC that crashed at Ashcroft near Manchester has now been modified with screens and the controls hooked up to a PC. There is still a bit of work to do yet but I thought I would put it’s maiden flight on a video to keep folk updated with it’s progress. It needs an instrument screen put in and thottle coupled up to pc then its pretty much good to go. No seats were to be found anywhere for a PA38 so a Toyota Hi Ace van provided something suitable instead!

Instrument screen added to PA38 simulator.

We have now added an instrument screen to our PA38 simulator. Needs a bit of resizing work done to files and a second panel fitted over to accomodate rotary encoders for adjustment of the altimeter subscale and D.I. etc.

Instrument screen installed.

The sun visors must have virtually dropped down after my hard landing!

HS748 G-BEJD and G-OLFC progress report.

Sorry Jetstream Man, No news at the moment. Glynn is looking at getting funds together to get hauliers in in conjuction with a squad of volunteers from Millom once the clocks go forward and weather gets better. Not sure if I am going in as wing bolt ferret or if there will be a sympathetic “chop and patch”. The latter I would prefer because it’s uncomfortable in there! I suppose it will depend upon how easy the remaining wing bolts are to remove.

Panel fit

Switches, throttle and radio installed

I removed the old throttle assembly to save on construction time. The Saitek quadrant that replaces it does everything (and more) that the old one did with out messing about hooking up more cables to a joystick.
The switches are a saitek panel (again saving lots of time) and the Radio panel does a whole host of other functions as well. Using this will control things like the altimeter subscale etc so will get things running until I make the cover panel for the instrument screen.

Spit parts back from the cutters.

We took delivery of our mk2 spit cockpit parts today from the cutters. Rather than doing them with a jigsaw this time, we got it cut on a CNC routing machine. Everything slots together as tight as a gnat’s chuff! Looking forward to building this one.

All parts spit kit minus windscreen metal hoop.

Testing longeron to former fit.

Test fit of longerons

We are going to test build this one without a ply base as this will reduce the weight significantly. Once we skin it, it should still be as strong as our last one with a base.

Spitfire build update

Just a quick update of where we are up to on our latest Spitfire cockpit.

spit kit2 017

The base is not fastened to the framework and it is still really strong so far.

Royal Air Force Laarbruch Museum is experiencing the same problems. Our engineering team transported the fuselage of Canberra PR7 – WH773 – from Gatwick Aviation Museum to Germany.
The wings are to follow in a few weeks time. I’m afraid they will have to be cut as we can’t afford a transport with police escort and all that.

At last some good news! At least one of the major airframes has found an appreciative home.
