On the 3rd & 4th September the RAF Millom Museum is holding a Veterans reunion, on the Saturday which is Veterans day a dedication is to be carried out of a stained glass window in memory of the aircrew killed whilst flying from the station and buried in Haverigg Church Yard.
Any one who served in the North West is welcome to attend the reunion as it has been opened up to a wider area, please see museum website for details/contact info.
The museum is open to the public from 2pm on Saturday till 6pm or later and 10:30am to 17:30 on Sunday.
For entertainment there is planned –
Living History/Re-enactor displays
Military Vehicle displays
Flight Simulator
Ground running RR Merlin engine
Aircraft cockpit displays
DJ Hepcat Mike (Swing/Jive) will provide entertainment durring the day & evening
And of course the museum
Also during the recent Wartime Weekend Event “Operation Bombard” a memorial was dedicated to all the Airmen killed in flying accidents in the North West during WW2, it centres around two of the engines recovered from the A-26 Invaders recoverd last year during the filming of C4’s “Time Team”, the memorial is to have some finishing touches carried out on it. The memorial was dedicated by a local Minister Joe Isaccs, who was a former WW2 Observer on Barracudas and is well into his eighties, and conducted the service stood in the back of a Dodge Weapons Carrier and supported by local FAA & RAF Standards.
