hello
Does anyone know the date that the bomber command hall re-opens as i rung the museum and the gentleman (helpful as he was) did not know?
I read in flypast that it would be mid october but that seems a little vague and i need to know before i go.

Arrange a meeting with the likes of us of the various forums to get an ‘enthusiasts’ perspective of what would be preferable for moving the museum forward and restoring it to what it should be.

Restore the galleries.
Stop the security staff hunting/hiding in packs of three and four thereby allowing them to enable full access to all areas at all times.
Change Millstones into the Milestones exhibition it purports to be.

What should be the first steps for any new incumbent?
As he walks in the door, reach to the left and turn the bl**dy lights on.

…so are there any suggestions for a replacement who, with the Battle Of Britain celebrations coming up has a ready made “leg up” or marketing tool for certain, and what track record they have?
Oh I don’t know, someone who has work within the RAF, understands the RAF and its history would help!
What about Squadron Leader Paul ‘The Major’ Day?
PS
This little piece from the Times article made me giggle
“A former member of the elite Mounted Branch of the Metropolitan Police Service for more than ten years”
Obviously well qualified to do the job then, not I don’t doubt the seriousness of this job nor that Dr Fopp may well have been very good!

suggestions for the replacement?
There are many strong views on the forum about the museum, I have a few of my own (and turning the lights on would be a start !). What I know about running a museum you could write on the back of a postage stamp. There are many forum members with a wide knowledge of the “business” for want of a better word, so are there any suggestions for a replacement who, with the Battle Of Britain celebrations coming up has a ready made “leg up” or marketing tool for certain, and what track record they have?

Perhaps the good Dr Pleming may consider applying for the post?
HTH (but it won’t!)

“The Trustees and the Royal Air Force owe him a great debt of gratitude for making the RAF Museum the success it has become.”
Is there another RAF Museum then?

I think it could be a step forward but like most of these things it could take years for a replacement to fully take over and then they have a HUGE mountain to climb which could take a lot longer.
But putting the lights on would be a start for anyone, oh a suggestion box in the main entrance would be good.

Hire people who can talk knowledgeable and in English about the exhibits.

Hendon reigns OK
turn the lights on for a month!! then close it down move everything to cosford
What about us poor sods in the South then. To do Cosford properly means an overnight stay on the way up. and probably again on the way back. Granted that we have Duxford in a days trip, but the Spouthern branch of the RAF Museum should stay in Hendon

Cosford means an overnight stay for me too….if Hendon did close were would you put everything?
Knock down the ‘fallen down hangar’ monstrosity at Cosford and put up a ‘proper’ building 😀

Dont be silly Baz if they only had people that could speak English only half the population of this Country would understand them. :diablo:

As you leg it out of the door with a particularly nice piece under your arm you can now shout “you’ll never take me alive copper” 😀
