RAF Museum booklets

Digging through my “archives” today for information on Bognor ALG (and 83 GSU), which I am providing for the Bognor Festival of Local History event in June, I came across some booklets from when I visited the RAF Museum in the mid-seventies – I also have a junior guide to the museum as well.

A world of difference for the lighting of the Lancaster in those days. I also “found” my Battle of Britain film booklet which was mentioned recently – I saw some of the filming at North Weald, including some “chicken-wire” bomb craters and dispersal huts. cheers – Allan125

That’s the one, thanks Robbo-I don’t know why I couldn’t find it when I looked!

Robbo – thanks for the URL and the fresh photo of S-Sugar. Whilst it might be easy to get shots of Sugar from Croydonia down here in deepest Cornwall it is not so easy as I can’t just pop in when I want to check on something !! Just one of the many things you miss when you move away from Londonium – still I can always wander down to St. Mawgan or Culdrose I suppose !! cheers – Allan125:cool:

I’ve not got the Lancaster book but I do have a copy of the museum guide.
Compare the style and the amount of information contained in its modern version…
Improvement??? Uhhhmmmmm?:D  😀

For the life of me, I can’t find that Sugar history site anymore-it appears to have gone. Damn! I’ll keep trying to find it. 🙁

S-Sugar

Hi Lancman – please pass over the Waddington site details.

When I am not researching 125 Wing and it’s squadrons (Spit’s, Hurricanes, Typhoons and Tempests) I also look around for Lanc’s (preferably of 61 squadron i.e. current BOBMF Lanc is one of course) as I had a cousin serve a 33 op. tour as a Navigator flying from Skelingthorpe. cheers – Allan125

I’ve got two copies of ‘A Very Special Lancaster’, which isn’t a bad little booklet actually, bought mine in the mid-eighties. The history of Sugar on the RAF Waddington website is also very, very good, if you’re interested and haven’t seen it before.
