RAF museum question

I remember the Whirlwinds carrying (not routinely) and using SS11 in Borneo (Kuching) during 65/66. I seem to recall that parachutes draped on a mountainside were used as targets.

I agree.The Skeeter was never armed and I’ve never seen pictures of the British army Sioux carrying a GPMG either.
Try the Helicopter Museum as they do have info in the archive on the Whirlwind SS11 installation.

What happened to the RAF museum? I asked him details of helicopter armament installations, and they said that “We do not currently hold anything on the mounting of weapons onto helicopters”. Have they lost their library? Where now Mr. Peter Elliott who has always helped me?

Just a thought, but providing such information might be seen as “providing assistance to a terrorist” (not sure that is the correct phrase). Totally bizarre, and as I said just an idea, but you don’t know what goes through the heads of people in institutions these days.

I’m sorry! Today I’m not so sure. It was report from early 1960th. The report mentioned to the helicopter section which includes helicopters Allouette with SS11 ATGM and Skeeter with Browning MG. But I can’t find this report and confirm

From what I know of the Skeeter it struggled to fly with two crew and the Tank radio the army insisted in putting in it let alone aditional armament.

Museum at Middle Wallop? Is it Army flying museum? My first attempt was unsuccessful.
