Mark,

Where was the photo taken? I’m sure I’ve seen a restored Do 335 online somewhere.

Thanks for the photo!

Todd

Here is that Do-335 taken ten years later at Oberpfaffenhofen in September 1982, beautifully restored and guess now at NASM.

I was there in May and it was absolutely horrible for taking photographs.
Although I did enjoy the aircraft 😀

Yes, we all know! But that was 6 months ago, so time to have another ‘dig’ at the RAF Museum about the lighting, until they do something about it!

What lighting?

I believe she is to be restored for NASM? correct me if im wrong

http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/aero/aircraft/dornier_do335.htm

“Following Navy flight tests in 1945-48, the aircraft was donated to the Smithsonian’s National Air Museum in 1961 but was stored at NAS Norfolk until 1974. It was then returned to Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, where the Dornier company restored it to original condition in 1975. The return trip to Germany required an exemption under U.S. laws concerning the export of munitions. The Dornier craftsmen doing the restoration – many of whom had worked on the original aircraft — were astonished to find that the explosive charges fitted to blow off the tail fin and rear propeller in an emergency were still in the aircraft and active, 30 years after their original installation! The Do-335 was put on static display at the May 1-9, 1976, Hannover Airshow, and then loaned to the Deutsches Museum in Munich, where it was on prominent display until returned to Silver Hill, MD, for storage in 1986.”

Only a deathly dull side-on static shot I’m afraid.

Allright,

Who’s got a picture of the Dornier 335? I’m sure there must be at least one in a museum somewhere…

Todd

One I photgraphed behind a shed in 1972

Probably scrapped off by now. 😉

Have just found another pack of RAFM photos. This included a shot of TW117 that I had forgotten about when it was displayed in the Bomber Command Hall.

No date on this one though.

Laurie.

Bruggen which mosquito is that behind the Sea fury?

Sorry for the delay in posting this. Just getting over a house move and managed to locate the photos that I took at the RAFM 78/79.

Here is TW117 at that time. Not a very good photo, but the only one that I have.

Also attached is the Sunderland before she went inside. Taken March, 1978.

Have quite a few more from that time if anyone is interested.

The former Shuttleworth flyer? Was it grounded then?

Flood

Flood, you’re getting confused with G-AOBU which used to be owned by the Shuttleworth Collection but kept at Loughborough University. It was then made airworthy and now flies with Kennet Aviation from North Weald as ‘XD693’. The Cosford JP T.1 is XD674 and I must admit I didn’t see it there last time and think it is hidden away ‘in store’ there somewhere, due to lack of space.

Has Cosford still got the Jet Provost prototype on display?

Forum meet at the Bomber Command Hall earlier this year. Andrew-O & JDK are at the back, and Kev35 at the front, but I’m not sure who the others are!

Geoff.

That’s got to be the constellation (Cassiopeia) in the northern hemisphere. 😀
