Hi been speaking to one of the chaps at work and he was telling me some stories of when he used to fly in Neptunes during the Cold War. I didn’t realise the RAF flew this a/c. Anyone got any pics or links/info they can share to stop my ignorance ! 🙂

I guess I can use this as a platform to for some of my pictures form the Mid Atlantic Air Museum in Reading PA. They had their WW2 weekend on June 3rd –5th.
Included is a Photo tour of the P2V-7 they have. I think that is at lest 12 pictures.

Up until the early eighties there was a complete cockpitsection of one including turret in the failsworth scrapyard.
A lost opportunity.

RAF Neptune
52 Neptune MR Mk 1s (P2V-5 from the US Navy) were supplied by the US under the Mutual Defense Assistance program in the early 1950s. They first entered RAF service with 217 Sqn at St Eval, and then a wing was formed at Topcliffe to cover the Northern area. Neptunes remained in service with 3 RAF Squadrons until 1957.
Picture and condensed text from page 219 of “The History of the RAF” by John D R Rawlings.

I know they were based at RAF Kinloss before the Shackleton, try looking on the RAF Kinloss site( a simple google should do the trick) and go from there
