My Mum and Dad have very happy memories of this airfield, where they met during the war.
Sadly Mum is now bedridden and suffering from dementia, and Dad is very frail. It occurs to me that it would be nice if I could show them some photos of the airfield as it used to be,and it would be good to use the computer for this as their sight isn’t too good.
Does anyone have any idea where I could find any pictures on t’internet please ?

What a coincidence! I am tre-reading First Light after a very long interval and have just reached Geoff Wellum’s final cross country exercise when he missed Netheravon in poor visibility and landed at Upavon. As it turned out most APOs made the same mistake in training!

the funny thing is that even though Mum doesn’t know where she is from one day to the next, she remembers her time at Netheravon quite clearly –
Dementia (especially Alzheimer’s) affects short-term memory first, then progresses backwards.
Her earliest memories will last longest.

Thank you all guys,my Dad will be particularly interested in these videos and photos. At 86 he still has the same passion for anything connected with aviation that he had as a kid watching the aeroplanes at Croydon in the 1920s.

Although not Netherhavon, uploaded these for you, these are two of my photos of RAF Upavon across the Valley taken by myself in the 70’s, looking past the Pumas the ridgeline is the Larkhill ranges… Hope they bring back some fine memories for your Mum 🙂

sorry they are not the worlds best quality.

What a lovely lot you are,the funny thing is that even though Mum doesn’t know where she is from one day to the next, she remembers her time at Netheravon quite clearly – they were both W/Ops and her introduction to Dad was when he tripped over a step and literally fell for her.
Thanks for your help.
Scott,my old Dad is an aeroplane nut so any photos of aircraft would be interesting to him.

Hi Bumblebee
I was based at Netheravon for 4 years from 92 to 96 and have a number of pics from the ground and air. However, I don’t have a scanner at the moment, but that might change very soon.
Anyone living in Newbury with a scanner that could help, please PM me!
Cheers,
Nick

You might try the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop. If they can’t help they probably know a man who can.
